Not long ago, we made a road trip through France’s bucolic Dordogne Valley, a lovely part of France that is not as well-known to Americans as, say, Paris or Provence. Our custom-designed itinerary included stays at atmospheric B&Bs whose hosts welcomed us with meals and wines worthy of a fine restaurant. We toured the countryside, enjoying charming villages, al fresco markets, medieval and Renaissance churches and chateaux, and the prehistoric cave art for which the area is famous.

Our trip was designed by France Just For You, a unique family-operated travel company that prepares personalized itineraries throughout France. Founders Emilie and Guillame Thyebaut explain their main objective with guests is “to go beyond their expectations.” And this they do.

Before we left the U.S., we received a comprehensive guidebook, written by them, that detailed everything about our itinerary: maps, background information on each destination, tips on French culture and etiquette, accommodations, dining options at each destination, and more. The Thyebauts’ careful planning and hands-on knowledge of France saved us time before and during our journey. Furthermore, we learned about special places we might have otherwise overlooked.

But don’t take our word. Check out France Just for You on Trip Advisor, where you’ll find consistently excellent reviews. And be sure to go to the Thyebauts’ blog to peruse their recommended itineraries and read articles on French food, wine and history. Here are a few itineraries we found especially appealing: Hidden Gems in France, the Normandy Cider Route and Things to do in Paris in December.
